Yaw Tog is an up-and-coming rapper and songwriter from Ghana born 8 May 2003 (age 18). He rose to fame after his debut single Sore was released in September 2020.
Sore, the song by Thorsten Owusu Gyimah Popularly Known as Yaw Tog, became viral after it was released. It reached number one on the Apple Music Chart Ghana. The song was remixed by Yaw Tog which he featured Stormzy and Kwesi Arthur.
Yaw Tog Early Life
Yaw Tog is a West African who comes from a middle-class family in Ghana. Due to his upbringing, he was able to see the world in a different way.
When he was a teenager, he started creating his own unique style of rap, which he later incorporated into his music. At weekends, he would hang out with his friends to perform his freestyling skills.
He finished his elementary school education at the age of 15 years old.
He is a final year student at the Opoku Ware Senior High school.
After months of honing his craft as a rapper, Yaw Tog decided to focus on drill rap, which could be a type of trap music. He took music seriously in 2018. in conjunction with his friends, O’Kenneth, Reggie, City Boy, and Jay Bahd, he recorded the single, Sore, during a studio in his neighborhood. The song was released to the airwaves or radio stations on the 3rd Of September 2020. Sore which is a Ghanaian word meaning rise up in English.
To Yaw Tog‘s surprise, the song gained attention and went viral in just a matter of days, as several people across the globe vibed to the songs. This put Yaw Tog within the spotlight immediately and plenty of Ghanaian and International artists started seeking him to figure with him. The short success of the song made Yaw Tog and his friends shoot a music video for the song as soon as possible. The song sore was released on the 18th of September 2020.
Sore topped on Apple Music Chart Ghana, Boomplay, Spotify, and other leading music streaming platforms for weeks. The music video of Sore has over 3.3m views on YouTube.
To capitulate on his success, he decided to try and do a remix of the song. At this point around he collaborated with leading UK rapper, Stormzy, and Ghanaian trap musician, Kwesi Arthur. Though Stormzy is from Britain, his mother is a Ghanaian. This explains why he was over willing to work with Yaw Tog on the project.
The remix of the song was released on the 4th of March 2021. As predicted by music pundits, it absolutely was well-received by music fans because the three rappers didn’t fail to satisfy expectations and were at their A-game. Millions of people have listened and downloaded the song. The music video of Sore remix gained 1.6m views on YouTube in a week and also the number has been projected to extend astronomically.
Yaw Tog has also released other singles and worked with other fast-rising artists. He dropped his debut EP, Time within the latter end of 2020. The project has singles like Gold Friend, Mood, and Akatafoc.

Yaw Tog is eighteen years old. He is signed to Stormzy‘s music imprint label. Aside from being Yaw Tog‘s mentor, the older rapper is more like a big brother to him.
Living within the streets of Kumasi helped to shape the type of music Yaw Tog created. He decided to do drill music so as to express the challenges he and other young boys of his age group face in Kumasi.
